Playing with the Pals

The Pals Paper Arts challenge this week is a color combination I absolutely adore!    http://stampinpretty.typepad.com/.a/6a00e54f95df92883401a3fd2da6fa970b-pi

The Challenge is simple:  just create a project using these 3 colors!  My answer:

IMG_3592 I used “Endless Birthday Wishes” stamp set for the image & sentiment.  I stamped with Night of Navy & Daffodil Delight ink on Whisper White cardstock.  My circle was cropped out and placed on a scalloped circle punched from Night of Navy Card stock.  This Daffodil Delight cardstock strip features a piece of coordinating Designer Series paper.   Solid color card stock  was punched with the flag end banner punch to create the little flags.  A few Rhinestone Basic Jewels adds some bling!

IMG_3593Since this card was being mailed out to someone special (all of my Stamp Club members get a handmade card from me on their birthday!) I wanted the envelope to be as special as the card.

IMG_3591I also lined the inside of the envelope with coordinating Daffodil Delight paper, but…..I didn’t take a picture of it and I’ve already sealed the envelope, ready to send!  So you’ll just have to take my word that the lined envelope really adds a classy touch!

New Hues Review: 28 projects to get your creative juices flowing!

Welcome to the July Pals Blog Hop. This month we are featuring a New Hues Review. Let the new Stampin’ Up! In Colors for 2014-16 inspire you – With 28 bloggers participating, we hope you will find great inspiration from our creations!  Let me start by introducing the new colors to you:  Blackberry Bliss, Lost Lagoon, Mossy Meadow, Hello Honey, and Tangelo Twist.

color collections

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from Nicole Watt at Pixel Maven’s Retreat on the Pals Hop. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the amazing creations.

When the new 2014-2016 In-Colors were introduced, I immediately fell in love with Blackberry Bliss.   Paired with Hello, Honey, it became a color combination I reached for over & over again (thanks in part to the new Moonlight DSP Paper stack).

IMG_3452[1] IMG_3453-002

See what I mean about this color combination? And the Moonlight DSP?  Don’t you just love the Blackberry Bliss ribbon as much as I do?  I used the new “Work of Art” stamp set for these cards.

While I really was getting mileage out of these two colors, I had somewhat neglected the other colors.   So I created the next card purposefully to expand my horizons and reach for other colors.  I used Hello, Honey, Tangelo Twist and Lost Lagoon in this card. Ok, so maybe I didn’t reach too far because it still uses Hello Honey as a primary color but at least I did resist the urge to pair it with Blackberry Bliss!   Instead I choose Tangelo Twist with an accent of Lost Lagoon. IMG_3526

This card features heat embossing and emboss resist as well as a watercoloring  technique.  It uses the new “Bloom with Hope” hostess stamp set.  The sentiment comes from “A Dozen Thoughts”.  The flower was heat embossed using Versamark ink and White embossing powder.  My aqua painters were used to create the watercolored background and to color the flower.  The ribbon is Lost Lagoon and I have to tell you how much I love this new 3/8″ Stitched Satin In-Color ribbon;  I have already used an entire roll of Blackberry Bliss Ribbon and Hello Honey Ribbon!  That’s alot of ribbon!  But thank goodness, I can still buy more – oh, don’t worry!   I already have.  I’m on my second roll of each of those colors!

Please let me know what you like about my projects and don’t forget to tell me which of the new colors is your favorite color!   Thanks for stopping by My Stampin’ Space today.  If you want to order these products, or any others, please stop by my on-line and shop securely.   Just click on any hi-lighted item above or click on any item in the table below.  Thanks!

With Heartfelt Sympathy

IMG_3227It’s never easy when you have to make a sympathy card, but Stampin’ Up! has such beautiful stamp sets and paper that it’s easy to make a classy looking card that conveys the right message, whatever the occasion.

I needed to make a sympathy card today and I immediately turned to the “Simply Sketched” stamp set because I knew it contained just the right sentiment.  I also knew I wanted the card to be in shades of browns, so I pulled out the stash of my all-time favorite Designer Series Paper – Morning Mocha.  While this paper is now retired (I stocked up while it was available because I LOVED it so much), your favorite papers & stamp sets never truly retire when you get them in their virtual counterpart:  MDS!.  So if you missed out on this gorgeous paper while it was available, you can get it in MDS and use it forever!  How cool is that?

Want Morning Mocha DSP?  Click here and download the virtual paper!

This card started with a Very Vanilla card base.  A strip of Morning Mocha designer paper & a piece of Soft Suede cardstock make a neutral backdrop for the sentiment.  I used a piece of Early Espresso cardstock to layer behind the Very Vanilla.  I feel that layers add a classy touch, as well as a pop of color.

IMG_3230I used the leaf image stamped in Soft Suede ink.  I stamped it once, then again – without re-inking – to create a softer image.  The sentiment was stamped on top of this in Early Espresso.  This layer works great because I am picking up the same color I used to create the matt behind this layer.

By far, I think the star of show is the gorgeous double bow! IMG_3229 Stampin’ Up!’s  Seam Binding Ribbon in Crumb Cake is the perfect ribbon for this bow.  It falls so gently and has just the right amount sheen.

I also added a few Basic Jewels Pearls to draw your eye upward once it has taken in all the gorgeous-ness of this bow!  That may not be a real word, but I think it perfectly describes this bow so I’m going to use it!

I’ve made a few of these double bows in the last few days and I think I’m finally starting to get the hang of it!  They are not hard to make but, practice does make perfect!  So keep your eyes open;  I’ll be posting more cards with this bow on it in the next few days.

Have you made a double bow before?    Do you know how to make a double bow?  Would you like to learn?  Leave me a comment and tell me your thoughts.

Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge

Ok, so I’m a little late getting this posted, but as they say “Better Late than Never”!  The Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge for this week is Real Red, Soft Sky and Whisper White.  Don’t you just love these colors together?PPA Color Challenge 187: Real Red, Soft Sky, Whisper White

I knew immediately what stamp set I wanted to use for this color challenge, Crazy, Mixed Up Love.   Don’t ask me why but I just thought the blender image would be great done in Soft Sky & Real Red.

PPA 187 I wanted the hearts swirling around inside the blender, and the buttons on the blender to be red while the blender itself was blue.  So my first thought was, “I’ll use markers.”  Great idea, except, I don’t have Soft Sky in a Marker; only an ink pad.   So what’s a girl to do?  Well, I considered my options but I finally decided I would ink up the stamp entirely using my Soft Sky ink pad.  Then use my Blender Pen to ‘pick up’ the ink off the stamp where I wanted it to be Real Red.  After I removed the ink from those places, I used my Real Red marker to color in the hearts & buttons.  Huff, Huff, and then I stamped as usual.   Perfect!  No one will ever know I didn’t have a Soft Sky Marker (except you, but you won’t tell anyone my little secret, will you?)

So now you know what to do when you want to color in a stamp  but don’t have the marker color you want.  This works best when color that is the main, or larger area of the stamp, so you only have to remove a small area.

Supplies:

Crazy, Mixed Up Love
#131071 (C), #131068 (W)

Don’t you just LOVE this adorable stamp set?  It’s perfect for Valentine’s Day, or any day that you want to share your love with someone.  You can click on the picture above and go right to my store and order your stamp set today.  Know what else is really cool about this set?  It’s available in German, French & Spanish too, so you can share your love, whatever your language!

I used a piece of Real Red C’oredinations cardstock from the Brights Collection because I really wanted the texture for this layer.  A piece of Soft Sky cardstock frames the Whisper White cardstock that I stamped on.  A little piece of 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon in Real Red  ties everything together.

Did you notice the little flagged-end banner?  That’s a new Stamp Set & coordinating Punch from the Sale-A-Bration catalog which will make its’ debut Jan. 28th.   You know  any stamp set that has a coordinating punch or framelit die, goes right to the top of my “Must Have” list.

Please tell me if you like the card I made.  Tell me too, if you like this stamp set.   I plan on sharing more samples made from this set in the next few weeks so stay tuned!  Come back tomorrow for more sneak peeks from the Occasions Catalog and Sale-A-Bration.  Tomorrow is our Pals Blog Hop so you’ll be treated to many great projects from the Pals.

Like me on Facebook so we can stay in touch there too!  Thanks!  🙂

Bling in the New Year

Bling in the New Year

Our Pals Gallery theme was “Bling in the New Year”.  Since I had a birthday card I needed to send out, I decided to ‘bling’ a birthday card.  I always think the striking Black & White color combo works well with something sparkly.  The Silver Glimmer paper and Rhinestones jewels were my bling of choice.  The oval framelit dies allowed me to crop various sizes of ovals that would layer perfectly.   I choose to offset my ovals to allow more room for my flowers.

Petite Petals, a new stamp set from the Occasions catalog, and the coordinating Petite Petals Punch allowed me to create a bunch of these flowers in a jiffy.  BONUS:  The stamp set and punch are bundled together for 15% savings!   Love that!

I simply used Black Staz-On ink on Whisper White cardstock to stamp various patterns of flowers and arranged them using snail adhesive and/or stampin’ dimensionals to give my flowers different heights.

Make A Wish!

One item that should be at the top your wish list from the new 2014 Occasions Catalog from Stampin’ Up! is the “Perfect Pennants” stamp set. This set of 10 stamps has such on-trend images and sentiments. When I saw this set, with it’s coordinating framelits dies bundled to save you money, it went straight to the top of my wish list!

This week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge provided the perfect layout to showcase this stamp set.
Mojo Monday 325 SketchI decided to go out of my comfort zone and make a round card!  It was so easy that I don’t know why I don’t do this more often.

The Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge for this week is a classy combination of Island Indigo, Gold and Whisper White.  http://stampinpretty.typepad.com/.a/6a00e54f95df92883401a5102dcda8970c-pi

So I decided that I would use that color combination and be able to post this card for both the Mojo Monday sketch challenge AND the Pals Paper Arts color challenge.

So here’s my submission:  Make a Wish The gold embossing on Island Indigo looks MUCH BETTER in person; but it’s camera shy and just wouldn’t cooperate with getting its’ picture taken.  But trust me, it really makes a statement!

I used the Scallop Circle Bigz die #113468 for my card base.  TIP:  I folded my cardstock in half and set the fold just under the top edge of the die.  While it does give a flat top, it also allows the card base to take the round shape.  The Circle Collection Framelits dies #130911 allowed me to crop an Island Indigo circle.  A piece of DSP from the Quatrefancy Specialty DSP #130141 gave me the patterned Island Indigo piece.  TIP:  Glue this piece to the Island Indigo BEFORE cropping out the circle.

I used the Gold Metallic Encore Ink Pad #132141 for the Gold banners.  Didn’t get this in the Holiday Catalog?  No worries, it is carried over into the Occasions catalog so you get this now!  TIP:  You can add Clear Embossing Powder to the Metallic Encore inks and heat emboss.  No versamark ink needed!

Are you diggin’ the scallop tag top on the sentiment?  Me too!  That punch was another MUST HAVE item that went to the top of my list my first trip thru the new Occasions catalog!  You can find this beauty, and it’s angled cousin on page 35.

So, what do you think of my double-punch knockout?  Does this make you want to step out of your comfort zone and try something new?  The round card was not all intimidating once I got started;  and well, the garbage can was nearby if it turned out to be a flop, so I figured I had nothing to lose!

I Believe!

I Believe in Santa ClauseI love this card!  This is not my original; it is my version of a card I saw on Pinterest.  I wish I knew where I first saw it and/or who first designed this so I could give credit where credit is due.  I’ve actually seen several versions of this.

To create the card, I started with  card base from Real Red cardstock.  I cut the beard from the Apothecary Accents framelits die.  The belt is a piece of Basic Black card stock.  The belt buckle is a square of Silver Glimmer paper; I cut 2 slits and slipped the black card stock thru.  A small circle punch and a silver brad make the buttons.  The sentiment is from a retired stamp set but the sentiment is just perfect for this occasion, don’t you think?

Let me know what you think of this card.  Have you seen this design before?  Have you attempted to re-create this card yourself?

And what did I do with the inside of this card?  2013-12-08 20.27.01

I use a plain sheet of copy paper cut slightly smaller than the inside and glue it just along the top edge.  A little coordinating stamp from Embellished Events finishes off this card.

Quick & easy for you to recreate this card for the last minute cards you need to make.

Happy Stampin!

Congrats to the Newlyweds!

Some of you may have been wondering where I’ve been; I haven’t been posting very much lately.  I’m still here but I’ve had a lot going in my life lately; all good I must say!  The most exciting is that my step-daughter just got married this past weekend!   We are so pleased to welcome Brian into our family, and with him, his 2 sons!

Below is the card I made for the newlyweds.  It is simple and elegant, with a black & white theme and just a bit of silver sparkle thrown for good measure.  The sentiment, from “Loving Thoughts”,  is my wish for them and their marriage; Forever & Always!

Forever & AlwaysI apologize that the color isn’t spot on; I do seem to have trouble photographing white.

This card is made from Whisper White card stock with a layer of Basic Black and another layer of Whisper White.  That skinny little layer of black adds so much don’t you think?

A strip of Basic Black is the perfect backdrop for the Whisper White banner sporting the sentiment “Forever & Always”; my wish for their marriage!  A rosette made from Basic Black DSP (from the Neutrals Designer Paper Stack) is placed atop 2 strips of Silver Shimmer Paper.  The diamond image on the tiny scallop circle is from the new Photopolymer stamp set “Another Thank You” stamped in Silver ink and a little Rhinestone Jewel for added bling.

Get Well Wishes

IMG_2364

I needed a get well card for a man so I wanted something clean & simple and with masculine colors. Sahara Sand and Island Indigo DSP pair up beautifully for a wonderful color combination that’s masculine but not drab.

“Everything Eleanor” and “Perfectly Penned” were the stamp sets I used.  I stamped the background in Sahara Sand ink on whisper white cardstock; my paper snips made easy work to accurately cut this out.  The Get Well sentiment was stamped in Island Indigo ink onto Whisper White paper.  The Apothecary Accents framelits popped out that die cut shape in no time.  I used the Candy Dots in Island Indigo (Regals Collection # 130932)  and the Candy  Dots Brad Bases to accent the die cut shape and sentiment.  They really add a finished touch, don’t you think?

You can click on any of the underlined items listed above and be instantly and magically transported to my on-line store where you can purchase that featured item along with anything else your heart desires!  If your order totals $150 or more (before shipping & tax) you will even earn bonus dollars so you can maximize your purchasing power – that’s right.  More power to you!

August Pals Blog Hop

Thank you for joining us for the August Pals Blog Hop. Even though it’s only August we want to provide some inspiration for your upcoming holiday projects. This month’s blog hop will showcase new products from the 2013 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog. We hope you enjoy seeing how we use the new stamps, new punches and other accessories!

You should have just left stop number 14 on the Pals Hop – Nicole Watt at Pixel Maven’s Retreat. If so, you are in the right spot. If you get off track, the full blog lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the amazing creations.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

“Merry Little Christmas” (#131826-wood, #131829-clear) was a stamp set that went straight to the top of my wish list my first trip thru the 2013 Holiday Catalog.  Why?  Because it’s part of a bundle!  Anytime I see a product bundle, I know that A)  the products will coordinate well together, and B) I’ll save money!

This catalog is full of kits, great for the busy crafter!  This stamp set comes bundled with a card kit for easy card-making without a lot of fuss and includes everything except ink & adhesives (basic supplies you probably have on hand).

For this card, I used a gray, red & green color combo.  There’s a layer of Smoky Slate card stock, then a layer of Real Red followed by a piece of DSP  (retired – I am bound & determined to use as much of my retired DSP as I can!)  .  The image is stamped in Real Red onto Whisper White cardstock.  I then stamped the image again on Whisper White using Gumball Green and snipped out the ‘little’ banner using my paper snips and popped it up on stampin dimensional.  The little bit of grey behind it offset gives it some flair.  The finishing touch is the Gumball Green ribbon.

The next item I had to have were the Expressions Thinlits Dies #132171.  I loved the font and the size of each word.  IMG_2601Check out the spread on pages 10-11 in the catalog for some great ideas with this die.

These two cards were whipped out in minutes!  (Thanks to the Pals for the great tip about using wax paper to help get the cardstock out of the die! – No thanks to my family for leaving an empty roll in the wax paper box in my cabinet and not letting me know we were out!  – But that’s a different story!)

Red Glimmer Paper and Silver Glimmer Paper and punches created the designs.  (The Mosaic Madness punch and a line of mini pearls makes a great ornament, don’t you think?)  Need a quick card that you can mass produce but doesn’t cut corners on cuteness?  These thinlits will get the job done for you!  Another reason I like this set – it spans 3 holidays.  Plus I could see using the Love sentiment for more than just Valentine’s Day.

IMG_2602You can order any of these products from me.  Just click here to go directly to my store and start shopping!

Cabana Madness

This week is birthday week at the Gleason house!  3 daughters, 1 son-in-law, 8 days!  Whew! My card making  madness was in overdrive!  Boy, does that make me happy!

Soft, cool blue is Jenn’s color; just like the color of her eyes.  Coastal Cabana just shouted “use me for Jenn’s card, use me!”.  And so Coastal Cabana and Whisper White were chosen as the color palette.  Cabana Madness

Mosaic Madness, the new stamp set with a coordinating punch were all calling out to be used.  I love that this stamp set has several different patterns of the same stamp; they work perfectly together but yet are different enough to provide just enough interest.  When a punch can pop out a perfectly cut shape in a single squeeze, I’m a happy camper!  These five shapes were stamped up and punched out in no time.  1 down, 3 to go.  Come back tomorrow for more birthday wishes.

If you want to order any of the products used, just click on the item icon below and you’ll instantly be transported to my on-line store where you can shop safely & securely from the comfort of your home and have your order shipped right to you.  Sounds just as easy as making this card!

Go Ahead & Cry….

Today would have been my in-laws 60th Wedding Anniversary.   You may remember that my FIL went home to be with his Lord & Saviour in January.  He was so looking forward to this day and really wanted to ‘make it’ until June, but the Lord had other plans for him.

I knew that today would be a very emotional day for my MIL and I made this card for her.

Go Ahead & Cry  I actually bought this set just for this stamp, just for this occassion, but I love all of the stamps in this set.  The stamp  set is called “Lean on Me” and it just retired.  I hope that you actually had the chance to purchase it.  This sentiment is just perfect for the occasion when you want to be there for someone at a time when there are no words.

Mom’s favorite color is purple and I figured that since was using a retired stamp set, it was a good to use some other retired products (the DSP) but I did throw in a newbie too – the Mosaic Madness TEF for the background.

If you have this stamp set, please leave me a comment and let me know which stamp is your favorite.  I love to hear from you.

Thanks & Happy Stampin’

Nancy

All Dressed Up!

This is a card that we made at our last Stamp Club.  It features new and old products.  A;; Dressed Up!

The stamp set is All Dressed Up and I’m tickled pink that this set and the coordinating framelits dies are being carried over into the new 2013-2014 Catalog.

I love the Baja Breeze Blue, Basic Gray and Whisper White color combination.  If you do too, you need to stock up on Baja Breeze cardstock, ink, accessories, etc. as this color is being retired due to our Color Refresh.

My Big Shot made easy work of cutting out all of the shapes for this card.  I stamped this dress in Baja Breeze ink onto Whisper White cardstock.  The coordinating framelits dies made cropping out this shape a snap!  The dress form was cropped out using Basic Gray cardstock also with the Framelits dies.  The dress fits perfectly on the dress form.

I used the Ovals Framelits dies to create the oval shape and offsetting the oval off of the card base creates an interesting background.

TIP:  I used SNAIL adhesive to glue the oval to the Baja Breeze cardstock layer first and then, using my Stampin’ Trimmer, I sliced off the portion of the oval that was hanging off.

The sentiment, also from the All Dressed Up set was stamped with Basic Gray ink onto the Baja Breeze layer.  This layer was adhered to the Whisper White carstock base and then a Basic Jewels Pearls necklace was added as a final, finishing touch.

May Pals Blog Hop

Thank you for joining us for the May Pals Blog Hop and our annual retirement party!   It’s time to say goodbye to stamps and accessories that will not be available in the new  2013-14 Stampin’ Up! catalog. Although it’s always sad to see wonderful products retire, it is exciting to think about all of the new products that will soon be available.   So enjoy the farewell tour for our favorite retiring products – and remember you have until June 3rd to order from the retiring product lists.

You should have just left stop number 10 on the Pals Hop –Lynn Hoyt at Cattail Designs.   If so, you are in the right spot.  If you get off track, the full blog lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the amazing creations.

Black ToileRed ToileBlue Toile“Elements of Style” (#118611 – wood, # 120045 -clear) is one of my favorite stamp sets.  I have made this card on numerous occasions, for beginner & advanced classes alike.  This is a beautiful toile design that looks good in any color combination.  All cards start with the same base and are constructed in the same fashion; I just used different colors.   I used either Basic Black, Real Read or Not Quite Navy card stock & ink.  (Not Quite Navy is a color that is also retiring due to the Color Refresh.)  Sometimes I would emboss the background layer with the Square Lattice Embossing Folder # 119976 for added texture.  The sentiment is part of this set and  circle punches make easy work for the sentiment.  A satin ribbon pulls the whole project together nicely.   Yes, I am going to miss Elements of Style from the new catalog, but….I’ve already seen the new catalog and there are a whole lot of new stamps that soon will become my new favs!

If you would like a PDF file of specific instructions to make this card, please leave a comment for me telling me color you like best and then head over to facebook and “LIKE” my page.

Butterfly Birthday

Here’s a quick and simple card that is short on time to make, but big on style!  butterfly birthday
A simple white on white background with just a bit of texture is the perfect backdrop for all this color!
The butterflies were a cinch to make; just a quick trip thru the Big Shot machine with the butterfly embosslits.  I layered a smaller butterfly on top of a larger one for added interest.  The line-up features Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, Lucky Limeade & Crushed Curry butterflies each accented with a Basic Pearl Jewel.

Did you notice I used 2 retired colors?  Well, they will be coming out of retirement when the new annual catalog is released this Spring.  Yes, Bermuda Bay & Crushed Curry will be making a comeback.  See my post for the color refresh just announced to see which of your favorite colors will be returning, and to see which colors will go into retirement.

Easy Peasy!
