2013

Happy New Year!

Well, a new year is upon us.  Where did 2012 go?  And how did it go by so fast I wonder.  While part of me is still asking that question, the other part of me is glad that 2012 is over and a whole new year is upon us.  A fresh start, a clean slate, a new beginning.

While, I’m not usually one to make New Years Resolutions, I do love the fresh start.  New files (and my P-Touch labeler just quit right in the middle of printing a label, I tried not one but 4 sets of new batteries and still nothing!  This is a office supply junkie’s nightmare!  But I’m trying not to panic….”Breathe, Breathe”…Staples should  have lots of label makers on sale this week so I’ll get by I’m sure. )  New calendars (yes, plural.  I have several; wall calendars, desk calendars, electronic calendars – I told you I’m an office supply junkie so this really shouldn’t surprise you)

The last 2 months of 2012 have been so chaotic and stressful and busy beyond belief but also beautiful in a way;  I have a family member who is dying and it has been a process that has helped to refocus my priorities about life and family and what is really important.  Like a compass pointing to true north, the reality of death has a way of sorting out the important from the trivial.

And so, I am craving normalcy.  Getting back to a normal routine and schedule.  The new year does this and so I welcome 2013 with open arms.

And yes, I do want to do more this year.  I resolve to blog more frequently, and to interact more with you, my blog readers.  And yes, like so many others I resolve to lose weight.  Certain health issues cause me to gain weight with unprecedented speed when I’m not taking care of myself and I haven’t taken care of myself these past few hectic months.  So if you too are looking to lose weight, let’s do it together this year and hold each other accountable.  Let me know what you are doing and let’s lose weight together.

So here’s to a new year; may it bring you & yours health, happiness and a smaller pant size!

With love,

Nancy

Sizzix Texture Boutique Embossing Machine

Due to the partnership between Stampin’ Up! and Sizzix, we are pleased to be able to offer a test run of the Texture Boutique Embossing Machine.  We have 4,000 available to be sold only while supplies last. If this product test goes well, we may offer the Texture Boutique again in the future.

The Texture Boutique works with Textured Impressions Embossing Folders to transform ordinary cardstock, paper, metallic foil, or vellum into an embossed, textured masterpiece. This machine embosses only; it does not die cut. Because this is a product test, the Texture Boutique is not branded with the Stampin’ Up! logo. It comes in Sizzix packaging and is the same color and design that is sold in stores. We recommend you read the included instructions before using the Texture Boutique.

‘Tis the season of giving, and the Texture Boutique makes a wonderful gift for anyone who wants to create their own elegant embossed art. To help you with your gift-giving needs, we’re offering a special value bundle that saves you $5.90. If you prefer, you can also purchase the Texture Boutique alone. Looking for stocking stuffers? Happy Birthday, Ann!

A co-worker of mine is celebrating her birthday this week, and in perusing the catalog, the pic on pg. 79 caught my eye and just screamed, “Ann would love this!”  So I whipped out my new paper trimmer, my big shot and my stamps and CASE’D this card.  Here is my version:

Happy Birthday AnnMy lighting is a little wonky and it seems a little washed out on the right side but I hope you can see it well enough.

I used Sahara Sand cardstock for my base, and topped it with Early Espresso Cardstock.  A piece of DSP in Baja Breeze from the Floral District Designer Series Paper pack # 126919 filled in the center.  I ran a little piece of Sahara Sand thru my Big Shot with the Finishing Touches Edgelits # 127010 to create the beautiful lacy border.  The Labels Collections Framelits # 125598 created the beautiful die-cut shape for my main attraction.  Everything Eleanor provided the stamps for the flowers and Perfectly Penned provided the sentiment.  Basic Pearls make great flower centers so after I snipped out my little flower stamped in Calypso Coral, I added a pearl. My leaves were also snipped and are tucked underneath the die cut.  Baja Breeze seam binding #122331 tied in a double bow is the finishing touch.

I just love the soft shade of Baja Blue and the contrast of Early Espresso. Calypso Coral and the Old Olive provided just the right accent colors for this color palette.  The way the seam binding ribbon just flows is lovely.  Everything about this card is feminine and reminds me of Ann.  Happy Birthday, Ann!

If you want to order any of the items I used here, just click on the hot links of the featured products or click here to go to my on-line store and shop securely 24/7.

Thanks for stopping into My Stampin’ Space.   Come back soon!

Mojo Monday 267

This week we had a great sketch to work with from the designers at Mojo Monday.  Here’s the sketch…

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jlv0mqiIIn4/UKLl57aO6PI/AAAAAAAALN0/hycGanE9dQA/s1600/Mojo267Sketch.gif

and here’s my take on it….

Mojo Monday 267My father-in-law is very ill and currently in the ICU.  I thought he needed something to cheer him up, and since my brand new “So Sorry” stamp set was just waiting to be used, it was a match made in heaven!  I love the grey herringbone pattern in the Howlstooth & Scaringbone Designer Series Paper # 126906.  Nothing halloween-y about this pattern; it’s all masculine.  Just perfect for the base for a get-well card for a man.  I love the Basic Gray and Summer Starfruit color combination so it’s no surprise that this was the only color combination I even considered.  The little piece of ribbon is tied only in a knot, no bow here!   The flag in a striped pattern of Summer Starfruit sets off the grey, adding some cheerfulness without being girly.

I think the finished product is a winner!  Nice and cheery but still masculine.  And Dad seemed to cheer up a bit when I gave it to him so, mission accomplished.

November Pals Blog Hop

We’re so glad you could join us for this month’s Pals Winter Wishes Blog Hop! We hope you have your holiday wish list ready because today the Stampin’ Pretty Pals are sharing some fabulous cards and projects showcasing our must have wish list items!

You’ve probably hopped over from Dawn Tidd at Tiddbits From Dawn, I’m stop number 14 on the Pals Hop and I’m glad you hopped in! I’ll help you “hop along” from blog to blog where you’ll find great ideas for Stampin’ Up! products from the Stampin’ Pretty Pals! Should you hop off course, simply click on any of the links in the Pals Hop Line-up below and you’ll be back on track.

I think the #1 staple in any crafter’s supply is a quality paper trimmer.  Stampin’ Up! hit a homerun with the introduction of their new paper cutter.  If you have any paper crafters on your holiday shopping list, make them happy, happy with a Stampin Trimmer

But, my favorite thing about Stampin’ Up! is their product coordination I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE when we have a stamp set and a coordinating punch or dies.  The Scentsation Season Bundle fills that bill.   Sets like this go straight to the top of my wish list because of their ease of making great looking cards without a lot of work.  Stamp, crank, ta-DA!  It just doesn’t get any easier than that.

What’s more comforting & welcoming on a cold winter day than a cup of hot cocoa and cookies?  My card was designed to be a table (a piece of retired DSP in a woodgrain pattern created that wooden table edge) with a tablecloth (thanks to the Paper Doily Sizzlit) inviting you to come & warm up with hot cocoa & cookies.

The Scentsational Season stamp set includes an adorable mug of cocoa, steam, gingerbread cookies, and a candy cane, Christmas tree & a star.  The Coordinating Framelits dies makes cutting those shapes a breeze.  Check back here later in the week, I’ll be posting some real simple cards made with this set to give you inspiration for other things to do with this set.  A shout-out to pal Ann Schach for her trick to cut a slit in the cocoa and slip the steam inside the cocoa!

I used a blender pen to remove the red ink from the cocoa mug and a Stampin’ Write marker in Chocolate Chip to color in the cocoa.  I also used colored sharpies to color the pearls to dress up our little gingerbread men!

I hope you were inspired to add a coordinating stamp set & dies to your wish list and/or the Stampin’ Trimmer to your wish list, or to your shopping list for a crafter in your life!  Thanks for stopping into My Stampin’ Space and hanging out with me.  Come back again.

Before you hop along, I’d like to give a big THANK YOU to our pal Nicole Watt for the fantastic job she did on creating our Blog Hop badge & buttons.  One of the must haves that should be on everyone’s wish list is MDS2!  Nicole used the Snow Festival Countdown Template (128136), which is part of the Remember December Collection Disc (129836). She used the recolor tool on the lights and stockings embellishments to customize the look. Want to learn more about MDS2?  Email me.

Now hop along for more inspiring ideas from Angela Curry at Kindred Stampers, stop number 15 on the Pals Winter Wishes Blog Hop! Thanks for “hopping” by!

The Wait is Over….

The MOST ESSENTIAL tool any crafter, especially a paper crafter, must have in their craft room is a paper cutter.  And a top rate paper cutter is the most indispensable tool.  Clean cut edges will make your paper crafts look professional and neat.Paper Trimmer

When the 2012-2013 catalog was released, Stampin’ Up! included a new paper cutter even though they said it wouldn’t be available until the fall.  Well, the time is NOW.   As of Nov. 1st, this new paper cutter is available for customer purchase.  My paper trimmer (#126889) was added to my order PRONTO, and I’m happy to give you TWO THUMBS UP!!   I am in love!  It has SO MANY FEATURES that other paper cutters don’t – it just rocks!  It was most definately worth the wait.

To demonstrate, here’s a video produced by Stampin’ Up! showcasing all the features of this new trimmer.

So, you can order  your new Stampin’ Trimmer here just in time for all your Christmas Card making. (We both know that we are going to be cutting alot of paper in the next few weeks).

This makes great gift too for anyone who enjoys paper crafts. So, start thinking of your gift list, and also feel free to share this post and video with your paper crafting friends & family (or drop hints for your wish list, too! Let your spouse and kids and co-workers know what you want). Feel free to Pin this, Tweet this or Share it on Facebook but don’t keep this secret to yourself.

It’s Election Day!

Vote

As American citizens, we have a privilege that many citizens around the globe do not have; that is the privilege to VOTE for our leaders.  Please exercise that privilege to vote and make your voice heard.  Due your due diligence and know the candidates and where they stand on important issues, and their track record.   Don’t be swayed by negative attack ads or what one candidate has to say about his/her opponent (they are usually half-truths at best).  Rather listen to what each candidate has to say for himself.  Then, make an informed decision and cast your ballot.

When you’re done doing your civic duty, come back here and check out the newest additions to our MDS2 digital offering.  (Hint:  If you are sports fan, you’ll love today’s newest downloads!)

Not using MDS2 yet?  Get a free 30-day no risk trial here or click on the button to the right.  (That’s something I wish we could do with our politicians!  Not living up to their campaign promises – 30 days later just give ’em the boot!)  If you like MDS2, you can purchase the software and continue using it.  Don’t like it?  Nothing lost.  It doesn’t cost anything, you don’t have to cancel, you don’t have to do anything.    All fun, no risk, what could be easier?

I’ll be posting a pic in the next few days – I made my Thanksgiving invitations using MDS2 and I’m so thrilled with the way they turned out.  Stay tuned to see that.

Mojo Monday 264

Well, this weeks’ Mojo Monday sketch challenge was such a great sketch – thanks to the great designers on the Mojo Monday design team!

I had so many ideas in my head; ideas for Halloween, for Christmas, for a birthday.  But when I sat down to make a card for my entry, I had a particular color scheme that I knew I wanted to use (Primrose Petals and Raspberry Ripple).  That made me decide to use two specialty papers:  Natural Composition Specialty paper and the Core’dinations Paper.  If you don’t already have these two specialty papers; you NEED to get them!  They are so much fun to work with and have such versatility.  Together they make a neutral color combination that can be used with any other color colors.

That led me on the path of wanting to use my Early Espresso heat embossing powder, and it just led me to the Pleasant Poppies stamp set.  That always happens to me; I start with something in mind and wind up on a different path but I’ve learned to ‘go with the flow’ and I’m never disappointed with where I end up!

So here’s my entry:  Mojo Monday 264

So what do you think?  I LOVE this color combination! I also LOVE the little dahlias – they are so cute and so super easy to use.  I think I am going to make another card just like this and use my blender pen to color in the poppies in Primrose Petals & Raspberry Ripple.  That will help with the continuity of color throughout the card.

Would you do anything different if you were making this card?

Click here to go directly to my online store and place your order today.  Or click on any of the hot-link items below to go right to that item in my store.

PaperNatural Composition Specialty paper#126917 , Core’dinations Paper in Early Espresso # 127848, Raspberry Ripple cardstock, Primrose Petals cardstock, Very Vanilla cardstock, Crumb Cake cardstock and Early Espresso cardstock.

Twisted Gift Card

One of the hottest trends right now is a twisted card; and since it is such a great way to give a gift card, it’s very timely too!  Well, I had a gift card to give – to my hubby; we just celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary!  So I thought I’d whip up a quick card to give him a gift card.  I gave him a gift card to the movie theaters so we could have a date night.  Yup, even after 24 years, I still LOVE going on a date with my hubby 🙂

Anyway, the card was quick & easy but in rushing, I folded the card closed BEFORE I let the ink dry, oops!   A little smudgy but, the good thing is my hubby loves me, smudges & all!

So twist cardthis is what I came up with.   I knew I wanted to use the champagne flutes from the  Embellished Events stamp set. And I wanted a simple, classy black & white theme.  I blinged it up a bit by stamping the image in Metallic Silver ink and embossing in clear embossing powder.  Rhinestones were used to create the bubbles.  Basic Black glimmer brads completed the touch.

(My mind always goes to food – when I created the circle, half black, half white to layer the champagne glasses onto – all I could think of was a black & white cookie!  Now I need to go to a good Jewish deli to get one – do I see a road trip to NY in my future?)

Making a twisted card naturally creates a pocket both on the front and the inside.  While I glued the front pocket closed, I took full advantage of this pocket to hold my gift card.  A sentiment from Hand Penned Holidays (now retired) provided the perfect sentiment to convey my feelings!  Twisted card inside

So what do you think of this “Twisted Card”?  Would you like to learn to make one?  I’m thinking of creating a video tutorial – please leave me a comment and let me know if you’d like to learn how to do this to give out your gift cards this Christmas.  If I get good feedback, I’ll make a tutorial.   Thanks for your input!
