Cool School Tools – August Pals Blog Hop

Welcome to My Stampin Space and to the Pals Blog Hop for August. This month we are showing off our favorite crafting tools – those Stampin’ Up! tools that we just can’t live without. We hope you enjoy our projects!

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from Lynn Kolcun at Stamping with Avery’s Owlery #22 on the Pals Hop. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the amazing creations.

I need to thank the Pals for planning the Blog Hop on my son’s birthday so the immediate world can see the cards I’ve made for his birthday.  My  ‘little boy’ turns 22 today.  He’s grown up to be such a fine young man.     I’ve always loved back to school time; I still love school shopping.  Note books, folders, paper, pencils, markers, crayons, calendars & organizational stuff.  Have you seen all the cool locker accessories?  I never had magnetic pencil cups or mirrors for my locker when I was in school.   But I won’t be doing any school shopping anymore so I have to content myself with buying cardstock, ink, Blendabilities and cool school tools from Stampin’ Up!  Come to think of it, I like that much better!

I had fun playing with the Moustache Framelit die and have made 2 cards for my son using this die.  Tell me which one you like best.

IMG_3676[1]This card uses the Moustache framelits die, and the Word Bubble framelit dies, and the Word Window punch (cut in half) for the eyes.  A simple square card from Crumb Cake cardstock and Basic Black cardstock.  The sentiment is from the stamp set “Just Saying” & is stamped with Tangelo Twist ink onto Whisper White cardstock.  Did you notice how the stamp image and framelit die coordinate so perfectly?IMG_3678[1]For this card, I used a Pumpkin Pie cardstock base, with a layer of Soft Suede cardstock for the background.  This time I cut out 3 moustaches, one each from Pacific Point, Pumpkin Pie & Old Olive DSP.  A strip of Very Vanilla cardstock was stamped with Early Espresso ink and uses the sentiment from “Peace, Love & Cupcakes”.  A button and piece of bakers’ twine secure the banner to the cardstock.  Candy dots add just a little bit of whimsy to the moustaches.

Now for my favorite tool – but I can’t narrow it down to just one! The most basic tool that any paper crafter has to have, and usually a first purchase, would be the Stampin’ Trimmer.  Every project starts with paper that needs to be cut, and of all the many brands & models of paper cutters out there, none offer the features & engineering that the Stampin’ Up! trimmer have.  Watch the video and you’ll see why!

I can remember my early days of paper crafting and thinking I would never get a Big Shot; I could never justify spending a hundred bucks on a tool and then needing to spend more money on the embossing folders & dies.  But I hosted a $400 workshop and decided the best way to use my half price was on a Big Shot and my hosting rewards for dies.  My papercrafting was taken to a whole new level and I’ve never looked back!  Now I couldn’t image papercrafting without it!  So the Big Shot, and the Magnetic Platform are my top choices for Cool School Tools!

With the Big Shot & Bundles Promotion going on right now, there’s never been a better time to step up your papercrafting and take the plunge.  Order a Big Shot, get a free Stamp set & Framelit die bundle.  I promise you’ll wonder why you waited so long!  Click here or on the graphic below to see all the stamp & framelit bundles you can get with this promotion!

Buy a Big Shot and get a free bundle. 15% discounts for everyone else! Get your free bundle.

The next stop is #24 Sherrie Gross at Stampin’ Sunshine on the Pals Blog Hop! Thanks for visiting and I hope to see you next month.

Birthday Wishes

Well, this week I decided to play along with CAS(E) this Sketch.  Participating in color and/or sketch challenges is a great way to stretch your paper crafting skills. ( And it’s also a great foundation if you ever feel your creativity is in a rut as it gives a great starting place!)

When I first saw this sketch, I thought “Hmm.”   I pondered it for a few days and then it came to me.  I knew I needed a masculine birthday card.  The simple color combo of Crumb Cake and Black came to me first.  Then the layout.  All I needed to do now was go down into My Stampin’ Space and find a stamp that would fit inside the circle.  “Endless Birthday Wishes” filled the bill just perfectly!  My answer to the sketch challenge: CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge

I really had fun with this sketch even though it seemed daunting at first!    I settled on gold stars but first tried two other colors for accents. I thought blue, and then thought yellow.   Since my 2014 InColors were already out, I punched a few stars in Lost Lagoon and Hello Honey and tried them on for size.

CAS(E) this sketch - blueCAS(e) this sketch - yellow

While I do like the blue and the yellow, I may have liked a brighter shade of each color, perhaps Marina Mist or Daffodil Delight as I didn’t feel that either color gave enough ‘pop’.  So I finally settled on Gold which I think contrasts nicely with the Crumb Cake & Black combo.

CAS(e) this sketch - gold

So what do YOU think?  Which color do you like the best?  Or would you have an entirely different color?  Please leave me a comment and tell me your thoughts.  Don’t you think this sketch is great for a masculine birthday?

Speaking of birthdays,  I need YOU to help ME celebrate a very important birthday!  I just celebrated a milestone birthday and I’m giving away a birthday gift!  Anyone who places an order with me or thru my on-line store thru Thursday, July 24th will be entered to win a goodie bag filled with a full package of designer series paper, 3 rolls of ribbon and a package of buttons, all in coordinating colors.

CM1807BThe long-awaited Blendabilites markers are now available to order!  You definately want to get these markers and take your coloring to a whole new level!

Another Way to use your Pinwheels

I shared with you an ‘out of the box’ way to use some of the pinwheels from the June Paper Pumpkin kit and here’s another really clever way to use them!  This was created by one of the ladies in my  Stamp Club.  Christy Seaman is really crafty and I was so excited to see how she used some of her pinwheels that I asked her if I could share her idea with you.  She agreed so here it is:

IMG_6095Mason Jars are so popular right now and Christy combined this trendy subject material with the Pinwheel she created as well as some pennant flags stamped with the stamps provided in the kit, tied everything up with some sparkly patriotic ribbon, and voila, a gift jar suitable for filling with all sorts of treats.

(Personally, I think it would be great filled with M&M’s!)  I would love that!  What would you like to see in your jar?

If you don’t already subscribe to My Paper Pumpkin, what are you waiting for?  It’s a complete craft kit in a box, shipped right to your door each month, for only $19.95!   Each month, a different project.  Instructions are included but most kits can be used in a myriad of ways, like I’ve been showing you here.

Please do yourself a favor, and sign-up now!  You need to sign up before July 10th to get the July kit.  You can also ‘gift’ a subscription to someone else.  You can prepay for a 1, 3, 6 or 12 month subscription.  The subscription can also be added to an on-line order, or a customer workshop order.  Savings are offered on the 6 & 12 month subscriptions.   Subscriptions need to be redeemed (either by you or your gift recipient) before the 10th of the month to receive that months’ kit.

You can make these pinwheels from any square of double sided  Designer Series Paper.  And now in July, you can buy 3 get 1 free of our exclusive DSP

Leave me a comment and tell me what you think about Christy’s pinwheel mason jar.  I’ll be sure to pass along all those comments to Christy.  This is her first debut on my blog so I want to make sure my readers give her a warm welcome.  Thanks!   Nancy

If you’ve been around the Stampin’ Up! World for any time, you know that the new Annual Catalog makes its’ debut June 1st. (YAY!!!)  The new catalog always brings the anticipation of new products; new stamps, new accessories, new colors.  But,   in order to make way for the new, something old must go (Boo!).  We know for sure the 2012-2014 In-Colors will be saying good-bye! (Think Summer Starfruit, Gumball Green, Raspberry Ripple, Primrose Petals, and Midnight Muse).       So anything in those colors will retire.     We also know that the DSP paper changes every year, as do the hostess only stamp sets.

Where do these products go when they retire?  Like any good American, they retire to Florida!

But who could retire without a proper send-off?  Stampin’ Up! publishes a Retiring List of all Stamps, and accessories well in advance of the new catalog so we have time to stock up on our favorites before they head south.  The RETIRING PRODUCT LISTS have just been published. Where have I been?

I just looked at my blog and the last time I posted anything was a month ago!!! UGH!  Can it really be that long?

So, you’ve probably been wondering where I’ve been, and hopefully, missing me!  Well, I’ve just been BUSY, too busy actually.   Many of you know that I recently went full-time in my day job.  Getting used to that schedule has been tiring, to say the least.

Shortly after that transition (while still acclimating to the change)  I had a 4 week stamping class that I taught at our local Boscov’s department store one night a week.  I had a blast, met some great ladies and had fun sharing my love of paper crafting with them.  I can say that all of the ladies, (who have never paper crafted before) had fun too.  So much that several of them have joined/are joining me for other stamping classes.

My husband has also launched a new division to his business.  Gleason Cabinet Co. has been remodeling kitchens/bathrooms/etc. in the area for over 50 years.  His newest venture, BathroomXpress, is a foray into the one day bathroom remodeling business.  This was launched with 4 home show exhibits over 4 weekends, back to back. So, we have been working 7 days a week, for 4 weeks, and have been putting in many nights in order to get ready for these classes & shows.

So you can see why I said I’ve been TOO BUSY!   I still managed to make a few projects ( I need to relax & unwind and stampin’ is my way of doing that!) Eating & sleeping, and cleaning the house have had to get squeezed in there too.   So, pulling my computer to write a blog post – it just got put aside.

But, I should be getting back into the groove.  I want to share with you all the projects I’ve been making so watch for some more blog posts with projects to inspire you & your creativity.Free Gift with each $60 purchase! Only during Sale-A-Bration, Jan 28-March 31. Shop now.

2014 Sale-A-BrationThe most anticipated sale of the year – Sale-A-Bration is here!  If you’ve been around Stampin’ Up! for a while you know why this is such a long-awaited sale, and most stampers favorite time of the year.  If you are new, then let me tell you that you are in for a treat!

Sale-A-Bration is a promotion that runs from Jan. 28th to March 31st.   It is a special catalog that is published just for this sale, and every item featured in the Sale-A-Bration catalog is FREE with a $50 order!

This year the catalog features 13 exclusive products that are only available FREE with qualifying order.  And there is something for everyone;  you can choose from stamp sets, to embossing folders, to punches, card kits, banner kit, Digital products for MDS, and designer series paper!  If that isn’t enough, there are extra incentives for hostesses, and extra products for those who choose to join Stampin’ Up! and get all that stampin’ goodness plus the perks of being part of the team!

This year the catalog is arranged slightly different than in the past.  The first pages are feature bundles of standard products available for purchase that total $50 or more.  If you order one of these bundles (the smart people at Stampin’ Up! made it easy – they’ve assigned 1 order to get everything in that bundle) than you earn 1 FREE Sale-A-Bration item.  Order 2 bundles, earn 2 FREE Sale-A-Bration items.  Want something else?  No problem, order anything you like, and for every $50 in products, you can choose 1 Sale-A-Bration item.

Want it all?  For $650 in product purchases, you can choose all 13 exclusive Sale-A-Bration items for FREE, PLUS $130 in Stampin’ Rewards dollars to spend any way you wish AND you can get 2 items at half off!  Wowzer!  You can $780 worth of products, AND 13 FREE items, and 2 half-priced items.  No wonder people wait for this sale all year long.   Stock up now on the things you know you’ll need all year long; card stock, envelopes, adhesives, pearls, etc.  Splurge on the things you really want: a Big Shot, framelits dies, ink pad collections, and get rewarded for every $50 you spend.

You can view the catalog by clicking on the image above, or you can start shopping here.

Tell me your favorite item from the Sale-A-Bration catalog.  I fell in love with the adorable “See Ya Later” stamp set.  Stop by on Saturday and I’ll show what I made using that set…..

In the meantime, have fun with the new catalog and please know that really appreciate when you choose to shop and stamp with me!   Happy Stampin’,
